6IV A. Clark, of Wellington, is to take charge, of the now post office, at .Kkctahuna until a postmaster is appointed. The death Is announced this morning of Mr James Earlier, senior partner ui the well-known firm of J. and 11. Barber, butchers, of this city. Mr Barber, who was sixty-eight years of age, am' / ed in Wellington forty years ago from London, in th©' Lord Worsley, and immediately entered into bn.-,inass pursuits. About twelve years ago Mr Barber retired from active participation in the (inn’s business,- and some .five years since paid a visit to England. He had been in indifferent health for the last two or three months, and died at tho residence of Jus brother, in Hobson street.

Mr James London, who died at Puliaute.nui on Friday, at tho ago of 63, came to tho colony' with his parents sixty years ago. For many years ho conducted a line of coaches between Wellington and Pahautanui. After the opening of tho Woflllington-Mnnaw'atu Railway ho ran a conveyance between Pahautanui and the Pareruata station. He continued to do tins until a few- weeks prior to his death, which resulted from cancer. Mr London is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters. Tho funeral, which took place at Pahaptaaui on Sunday, was attended by representatives of nearly ail tho families in-Iho district The Church of England burial service was road by tho Bov J. W. Chapman, and tho Oddiellows’- ritual by Mr W. H. Field, -l. 11.8. The deceased was a prominent member of the 1.0.0. F., Manchester Unity, Lodge at Pahautanui.
