ODDFELLOWS’ CONFERENCE

. Special to the “ Times.” Tho district meeting of tho Manchester Unity Order of Oddfellows was opened at Pahirtua on Thursday. Palmer and A. McCulloch; Loyal Kainapoura Lodge, P.P.G.M. E. C. Ludwig. The Provincial Grand Master (Bro. J. Mirlield), in his address, welcomed the delegates to tho first district meeting of tho now century.' It was his painful duty to refer to tho death of their esteemed and beloved Queyn, during whose reign so much good had come to tho friendly society movement. Referring to the war in South Africa, it was very gratifying, ho said, that members of friendly societies were to be found in every contingent that had left tho colony. With a view to further increase tbo interest of colonial districts in the “Oddfellows’ Magazine,” the Grand Master and directors had resolved that a miniature portrait and brief biography of some prominent colonial Oddfellows should appear in the magazine every quarter. A resolution of sympathy was passed to Bro John Smith, junior., P.P.G.M., on the death of his daughter, and on his own recent accident.

Tho report of the Management Committee, and the balance-sheet were adopted.
