SWIMMING
WELLINGTON COLLEGE SPORTS. The annual swimming sports in connection with Wellington College wore held in the Bell Memorial Baths. There was a large attendance of hoys, and] a good programme of events was supplied. The officials were as follows:—Judges, Mr J. P. Firth and the masters of the college; starter, Mr J. Bee; handjeapper, Mr G. Hutchinson. Following are the results : Junior Championship, 100yds. C. • Freyburg, 1; R. Freyburg, 2. Time, Imin 31sec. Beginners’ Race, 15yds.—First heat— Seagar, 1; Hammond and Denniston (equal), 2. Second heat—Haoon, -1; Wrigglesworth, 2. Final—E. Sen gar, Bseo, 1; L. Denniston, 4sec, 2. The winner won just by a fraction, after a close race. Time, 19$ec. Back Race, 25yds.—First beat—Hartroe, 1; Yates and Hellaby ii. (equal), 2. Second hdat—Freyburg, 1; Eerslake, 2. Final—Hartree, "1; C. Freyburg, 2. Time, 24sec. School Championship, 200yds.—J. Nilsson, 1; G. Wix, 2. Nilsson and Wix swajn abreart up to 50yds; at 75yds Nilsson was slightly ahead. Breast Stroke.—First heat—R. Griffiths, 1; G. Fulton, 2. Second heat— L. Staples, 1; L. Marchant, 2. Final— R. Griffiths, 18sec, 1; L. Staples, 16sec, 2. Griffiths was liberally dealt with in the matter of handicapping. Time, 62 3-Ssec. ’ . 50yds, under 15.—First heat —H. Quane, 1; Barltrop, 2. Second heat, L. .Picot, 1; R. Watson, 2. Final—H. Quane, 20sec, 1; R. Watson, 3sec, 2. The winner was easily first, but the second man attained his position only with difficulty. Time, 51sec. 26yds, under 12.—L. Jeffcoat, 1; W. Carroll, 2. Time, 23sec. 100yds Open.—L. Blundell, 7scc, 1; J. Nilsson, sor, 2; E. Taylor, scr, 3. Time, Imin 33sec. Long Dive.—G. Fulton, 128 ft Sin, 1; Fj Kidd, 109 ft llin, 2; A. B. Byers, 106 ft, 3. 75yds, under 16.—First heat— ll. Quane, d. Second heat—L. Blundell, 1; J. Hellahy, 2. Final—H. Quarne, 25sec, 1; L. Blundell, 2sec, 2. Quano was liberally dealt with. Blundell swam a very plucky race, and almost succeeded in catching the! winner. Time, Imin ISsec. Plunge.—R. Ereyburg, 37ft, 1; H. Time, 16 4-sseo. 50yds Open.—First heat—Brandon, 1; Picot, 2. Second Nilsson, 2. Third heat—Fulton, 1; AlcLaren ii., 2. Final —A. Brandon, 13sec, 1; J. Eerslake, Bsec, 2. Time, 45,sec. 50yds, under 16—McLaren ii., 6sdc, 1; Fyers, scr, 2. An exceedingly well-con-tested race between the placed men. Time, 46secCallender won the neat header, J. Hellaby the Egg and Spoon Race, and U. Hartree, with J. Nilsson, the Rescue Race. The committee’ of the Swifts’ Amateur Swimming Club has decided to close the season with a smoke concert, to be held at tho Trocadero on Friday, the 29th hist, at 8 p.m., at which the presentation of prizes will take place. .
