PETONE AND HUTT NOTES.

(By Our Own Correspondent.) The employees of the local Woollen! Factory held their annual picnic at Upper Hutt on Saturday. The clay’s outing was brought to a successful close by holding a social in the evening at tho Petono Oddfellows’ Hail. The Kia Ora Football Club held its annual meeting at Lower Hutt o:i Satday evening, Mr W. Welch presiding. Following were the officers elected for the ensuing season:--Patron, Mr W. H. Field, M.H.R.; president, Mr K. P. 'Bunny > vice-presidents, Messrs Pitamn, McVinish, W. Pringle, T. Waloh, \VWelch, T. M. Wilforcl, Casey, C. V. Brown, E. Rxddiforo and Dr Puioi , secretary, Mr A. W. Stevens; treasurer, Mr W, Welch; captain, Mi M. Welch; vice-captain, Mr L. Windsor ; committee, Messrs Mcßae, T. Jones. \\. Collett, P. Hayes, Windsor and W. Patterson; selection committee, Messrs \\ . Welch, Mcßae and Baumber; delegates to union, Messrs A. W. Stevens and M. Welch. Nine new members elected.

The prediction I ventured in a previous contribution that : the Petono bandsmen would render a. good account of themselves at the Wanganui Band Contest has been verified by results, for besides the members being well up in the various individual contests, the band managed to secure second place in the championship. The members of the Petono It ill eClub who took part in the Wairarapa, Riiic Association's meeting at Papawai last week added fresh Bistro to the club’s name for good shooting, winning six out of the eight matches, besides annexing the Challenge Cup. The celebrated 'Ballinger Bros, tied for the aggregate, and in tho shoot-off W. H. Ballinger put up the higher score. G. Smithies won the Feathcr-ston Match, J. Turner the Carterton, Martinborough and Mauricevillo Matches, C. Trovothick the Pctone Match and J. Wilson, the Grey town Match. This is indeed a highly creditable performance. For the Hutt Valley Cricket Association’s senior championship, Kaiwarra de. footed St. Augustine’s. Kaiwarra had a big load 1 from the previous Saturday, and the church, club, haying an insufficiency of players, forfeited.
