BAND CONTEST
PEESS ASSOCIATION. WANGANUI, March 15. At the hand: contest the solo competitions concluded to-day with the E-flat horns. Ten players competed, Wanganui gaining first, second and third prizes, with E. Gould, 11. Blyth and G, Jensen, who were placed in that order. The matching competition was witnessed by a large crowd. The’results are:—Wanganui Garrison, music 76, marching 288. total 364; Woodville, music 66, marching 269, total 335; New Plymouth, music 66, marching 265, total 331; Palmerston North, music 66, marching 259, total 325; Masterton’ music 74, marching 24§: total 322; Petone, music 75 marching 244, total 319. The contest concluded to-night. The result of the championship is—Wanganui, 357; Masterton (disqualified), 355; Potone, 317; New Plymouth, -306; Palmerston, 305; Woodville, 288. There was a great crowd at the Opera House, and the contest was, altogether, most successful.
