EVENING ENTERTAINMENTS
MISS CONNELL'S CONCEPT. For Miss Connell’s concert in the Opera House this evening everything points to there being a crowded house. Miss Connell well deserves the splendid receptions that have been accorded her during her tour, for she has great natural gifts. The programme, which is published this morning, is an admirable one, the contributors being Miss TanslSy, Mr Prouse, Mr E. J. Bril,’Herr Max Hoppe and little Irene Morris. Dix’s Gaiety Company attracted a very large audience to the Theatre Royal last night when the bill for the week was repeated with some slight alterations.. Mr F. M. Clark’s finale, “Professor CollarShirts.” was introduced for the first time, and occasioned much- laughter. Puller’s Bijou Company repeated its present attractive bill at the Choral Hall last night, in the presence of a crowded house.
A large audience assembled at the New Century Hall, the convenient new headquarters of the Wellington Association of Spiritualists, last night, to witness a novel form of spiritualistic entertainment, Mr William .McLean presided. The object of the meeting was to display a large number of photographs, unique of their kind, specialty imported from England and America. '■ /Most of the pictures, which were shown on a screen by the aid of a limelight apparatus, manipulated by Messrs E. Craig and E. Taylor, related to matters of interest connected with spiritualism in the United States, but the most interesting were the photographs of materialised “spirits.” ’ The negatives were secured by photographing the "spirits” immediately after the medium had materialised them, and their reproduction by the ordinary process apeared to impress the audience considerably. The intervals were agreeably filled in with vocal selections by Mrs Moore and Messrs W. Firkins and T. Volkmann. Mrs McLean acted as pianiste. The excellent programme provided by the St. Patrick’s Day Celebration Committee for the concert to be held in the • Opera House on Saturday evening, is sure to draw a crowded house. Among those who will assist are Miss Beatrice Vartha, Miss Violet Mount. Madame 7 Eveleen Carlton. Miss Lucy Fraser. Messrs E. .T. Hill, W. B. Cadzow, Martyn Hagan and others. The box plan is on view at the Dresden Piano Company’s, and day tickets can be purchased at Abel’s, Manners street.
