HOTEL LITIGATION
PRESS ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND . March 13. An important case was begun in the Supreme Court to-day before the Chief Justice. The plaintiffs were the Captain Cook Brewery (Limited), better .known af( Hancock and Co., and the defendant was Mr M. Ryan, licensee of the United Service Hotel. The defendant holds a lease living the rent at A3O per week, with the condition that it was to be JilC Tie provided he purchased beer from the defendants. He did purchase beer from them up to October last, when he went elsewhere, alleging that the article supplied to him was bad, and from that date the plaintiffs claimed full rent. The case was heard with a.common jury of twelve, who are to decide as to the quality of the beer supplied, and afterwards counsel will argue the question of law as to whether, under the Alcoholic Liquors Sales Control Act of 1195, the rent is recoverable. .
