LINCOLN COLLEGE

RESIGNATION OF THE DIRECTOR. PRESS ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHURCH, Alarch 12. At a meeting of the Board of Governors of Lincoln Agricultural College today the committee of inquiry reported that tho management of the college was pnasatisfaotoryand presented a long report of the evidence taken, stating that the best course to adopt was “to separate from tho office of director the Department of Agriculture, to re-cast the present arrangements, and to appoint to the office of director a gentleman who may be considered to have special qualifications for tbs government of an institution. of the kind, and w*ho wou 1 be able to devote a large part of his time to the work of bringing before the public the advantages the college offers.” A letter was read from the director (Mr J. Bayne) stating that he had done his best for the college, and that it had advanced under his management. He denied that the discipline was lax; tho success of tho students in examinations negatived tho idea that the discipline was defective. A substantial cause of complaint was obviously the diminution in the number of students, and for this he considered ho was in no way to blame. He had made suggestions which, had they been carried out, would have secured a. very material increase in tho numbers attending. The war In South Africa had taken away many who would have been students. He tendered his resignation, which was accepted.
