RAILWAY RETURNS

Grand total for colony (2210 miles), £145,343 14s 3d. The expenditure for the four-weekly period ended February 2nd was as, follows : —Kawaka.wa, £BO 7s 11s: Whangarei, £431 13s 4d; Kaihu, £323 10s‘3dy Auckland, £11,216 19s; Wellirigcon-Napier-Ncw Plymouth, £23,798 2s 3d; total for North Island, £35,850 12s Bd. The revenue on the whole system was accordingly £145,343 14s 3d. and the expenditure £89,004 14s lid. Figures are also given showing the average percentage of revenue expended on the different sections for a twelve-monthly period to date. To the termination of the four-weekly period ended February 2nd those ratios are as follow:—Kawakawa, 113.72 per cent.; Whangarei, 46.23 per cent.; Kaihu, 49.14 per cent.; Auckland, 70.03 per cent. ; Y7ellington-Napier-Now Plymouth, 71.99 per cent.: total North Island, 70.66 per -cent, (as against 71.16 per cent, to the same date last year). Hurunui-Biuff, 63.18 per cent.; Westland, 60.97 per' cent.; Westport, 48.97 per cent.; Nelson, 120.23 per cent. ; Picton, 100.31 per cent.; total for South Island, 63.26 per cent, (as against 62.51 per cent, to the same date last year). On the irhole system the average percentage of revenue expended for a twelve-monthly period has. increased from 65-69 per cent.. in February last year id 66.01 per cent, at February 2nd this year. Tlio Midland Railway is of course included in this year’s figures. Turning to the Wellington section, the revenue for the four-weekly period to February 2nd is shown to have boon composed as follows:—Passengers, £14,367 Is 4d; parcels, luggage and mails, £1827 4s 8d ; goods, £22,768 13s; miscellaneous, £537 17s lOd; rents and commission, £557 5s 8d ; total, £-10,058 2s 6d.
