PEES 3 ASSOCIATION. THAMES. March 9. The Tliamfs Miners' Union held a special meeting last night with regard to the Waihi miners' demand on the Waihi Company. A resolution was passed that the dispute be carried to the .Conciliation Board. A ballot of members.will be taken to-night to ratify the resolution., PAHIATUA, March 9. At a meeting of the Borough Council last night Mr J. Burrows was elected Mayor for the remainder of the term-in place of Mr J. D. Wilson, resigned.- ;2

DUNEDIN. March 9. The directors of the New Zealand Drug Company recommend a divided at the rate of 7 per cent, for the year ending 31st December last, absorbing <£12,897, and carrying forward £18,992.

AUCKLAND .March 9. In the charge against James Miller of murdering his son, the jury returned a verdict of not guilty ,on the ground of insanity. The prisoner was placed in custody till the decision of the> Colonial Secretary shall be made known. , CHRISTCHURCH, March 9.

Two escapees from the Burnham Industrial School were found to-day on a farm close to the institution. They had killed 'a" sheep and were boiling the legs in buckets. A farmer came upon them, and after a smart chase, caught them and took them back to Burnham. . .

At a largely-attended meeting of school teachers of the North Canterbury Educational District the following motion was caried:—That pending the introduction of a colonial scale this meeting of teachers approves the action of the Government in voting money for the increase of teachers’ salaries and respectfully requests the department to leave the allocation of the grant in the hands of the boards.
