Councillor J. Smith slipped on a stone and severely injured his right shoulder while cel fishing in the Wainui-o-mata stream on Friday night. A Press Association message from Dunedin states that Mr David Baxter, a well-known wino merchant and a prominent bowler, died there suddenly on Saturday morning.
