T'KIiSS ASSOCIATION. INVERCARGILL, March 1, 'rhore was a very large, gathering of people to see the Indian ‘representative soldiers, and all wero delighted with tiro display they made. The only note of regret—and it was generally expressed —was that they had made so long and tiresome a journey for a stay of three hours. Indeed, many of the men looked distinctly fagged. Tho 'Southland Mounted Rifles supplied fifty horses, and, with other district corps, escorted the' visitors, headed by the Garrison Baud, to the Queen’s Park. There waa little time for ceremony and sight-see-ing after tho men had had luncheon. Shortly after three o’clock they wore back at the station, took train, and wero off for Dunedin at 3.35. On reaching Dunedin they will have travelled 523 miles within twenty-three hours. DUNEDIN, March 1. Tho Indian troops arrived from Invercargill shortly before 10 p.m. They appeared to be quite fatigued with continuous travelling, and apparently suffered greatly from the cold weather which set in to-day. A largo crowd assembled to see them disembark, and the local troops cheered heartily as they marched to tho Agricultural Hall,where they take up their quarters for the night. They will parade in the morning, and afterwards visit tho races. PALMERSTON, March 1. A man named Donald McLeod, one 'of a gang of spielers, was to-day sentenced to two months’ imprisonment in Napier Gaol on tho charge of being an idle and disorderly person, with no visible means of support. In McLeod’s bag wero found a set of burglar’s tools. NEW PLYMOUTH,-March 1. The Customs revenue collected at this port in February amounted to £1342, as against £llBB in February, 1900. The exports from the breakwater were— February, 1901, £94,748; 1900, £65,176. The exports of dairy produce for the six mouths to date were 120,060 packages of butter of the value of £283,635; cheese, 15.715 packages, value £39,288. The corresponding figures for- last year were 120,305 packages of butter of tho value of £270,686, and 8848 packages of cheese of the value of £22.120. AUCKLAND, March 1.

At the quarterly meeting of the Liceifeing Bench, Sergeant Siddels reported that more accommodation and better houses should bo provided in a number of places. Tho committee concurred, and gave a hint to the owners of the houses on tho snhject, saying that they would be_ expected to improve matters if they wished to retain their licenses.
