ROWING.
STAR BOATING CLUB. The President’s Fours contests (prize, four silver breakfast cruets, presented oy Air IT. D. Bell) wore rowed off by Star Boating Club teams on Satar:lav. The result was some very close and exciting contests in good water, and. finally, a win for the team stroked by D. W. Duff by a length and a quarter from Bridge’s crew. Mr G. H. Bethune was judge, and Air O. R. Feudal! starter. Appended are details : First heat—A. Warburton, W. D. Home, T. M. Page and F. A. Barclay (stroke) and IT. G. Lewis. J. Swift, N. H. James and A. Second heat—R. C. Davidson, AV. R.. Haokworth, E. L. Watkins, C. E. Bridge (stroke), beat AT. Weston, F. G. Matthews, O. Skelley and W. H. Rose (stroke) by a quarter of a length.
Third heat—H. Hunter-Brown, E. L. Ohaffoy, G. Craig, C. E. Dovvland (stroke) beat K. Wilson, J. A. McLeod, C. E. Finch, and T. Gale (stroke; by Bft.
Fourth heat—l. Wat) dns, A. McShane. O. Oswin, D. W. Duff (stroke) boat J. Pym, A. H. Johnstone, E. H. Dodd and R. Pownr.l) (stroke) by half a length,; E. F. Jupp, G. C. Schmidt, H. AV. Cooper and A. Bayfield 'stroke) also competing. Fifth heat —Bridge’s crow boat Barclay’s crew by a length. Fell was 2ft off, third, thus fiarrowly esoaning a repetition of the initial head-heat. Final—D. AV. Duff’s team (with R. J. Weston as cox), heat- Bridge’s crow by a length and a quarter, Rowland (two lengths off) third.
The senior and double-scull races of the Star Boating Club will be rowed off on the 27th instant, the Senior and Junior Pairs on the 9th March, and •the AlcLean Fours on tho 23rd March. The season will bo closed on the latter date.
AVELLINGTON ROAVING CLUB. The “Ladies’ Plato” Fours, AVellington Rowing Club, in which eight crows competed, were rowed on Saturday afternoon in smooth water, and’resulted as follows: First round—J. Alacdouald beat T. Spencer; G. Spencer beat O. Jones; A. ilcAlpine beat IT. Spencer ; AY. Shilling beat AA r . J. Spencer. . Second —G. Spencer beat J. Alacdouald; AV. Shilling boat A. Me. Alpine. Final—K. Bothune (bow), D. Alow.at (2), AV. Nidd(3)( AV. Shilling (.stroke,, J. Gosling (oax) won from At. Campbell (bow), H. Juriss (2), E. AVylie (3)*, G. Spencer (stroke), E. Player (cox) by a length.
Messrs G. Player and A. J. Bishop were started and judge respectively. Tho swimming championship of tho club, which resulted in a dead-beat at the recent sports, was swum, over, when A. McAlpine beat J. Spencer, after a good race. 1
