HEAVY RAINFALL

AN EXTRAORDINARY DOWNPOUR. SYDNEY, January 22. A cyclonic storm with terrific rain, passed over tho city last night. Two and a half-inches of rain fell within’half an hour. The storm did thousands of pounds’ worth of damage, flooding .shops and cellars with water to a depth of three feet. In King street the business places w ere inundated, and a rubbish-box was carried by the force of the water through a large plate-glass window. (Received January 22, 10.29 p.m.) SYDNEY, January 22. Rain fell last night at the "highest rate recorded—Bl- inches per hour. At Camden 3} inches fell in an horn- and a half.
