mESS 'ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHURCH, November 15. At tho Supremo Court to-day Thomas Mubin was charged with libelling Thornhill Cooper. Both parties are average adjusters, and the alleged libel was contained in a letter to a firm of shipping agents. Accused conducted his own case. The jury returned a verdict of guilty, with a recommendation to mercy on account of accused':ago. His Honor asked if there was any ■friend of accused present in Court, as he had endeavoured to make the prisoner rcaiiso his position, but had failed, and ho felt some reluctance in sending a man of accused's age to gaol. Ultimately his Honor said he would deal with tho prisoner in tho morning. In the case of .UAces Jennott, charged with a criminal assault on a young woman at Lakeside, the jury returned a verdict of not guilty.
