AWFUL DEATH OF A WOMAN. PEESS ASSOCIATION. - , ' DUNEDIN, August 18. Mrs Martha Smith, aged about 35, who was married only seven, weeks ago, was caught in between .two. fern fires on the -Barnego. Settlement, at Hillend, near Balcluthq, yesterday. She was found by her husband when he was returning from work—fearfully burned, and with life extinct. . CHRISTCHURCH, August 19. A man named, John Clancy, single, employed by J. M. Heywood and Co,, as a carter, filed at the. hospital this morning from injuries received by falling from the loft of a stable whero he was in the habit •of sleeping. An inquest will be held tomorrow. ■
