DEATHS FROM DISEASE.

.MORE iNE-,V ZEALANDERS GONE. On Saturday the Premier received the following cable message from Sir Alfred Milner, Governor of Capo Colony, dated Capetown, July 13: “ Regret report following members New Zealand contingents died from enteric fever at Gcrniistou, on tbe 11th July:—-Trooper Keith Gorrio, Trooper C. Wiggins, Lance-Corporal E. B. Tosswill.” Trooper Wiggins and Lance-Corporal Tosswill both belonged to.tho third contingent. The former hailed from New Plymouth, and Tosswill from Kaikoura. Trooper Gorrio was a member of No. 1 company of tho first contingent, and enlisted from AVaikato, where ho had been farming with a brother. Gorrie, who was but twenty-four years of ago, was a son of Mr W. Gorrio, of Upton and Co., a firm of booksellers in Auckland. TNA'ABIDED COLONIALS. MESSAGES TO AIR SEDDON. The Premier has received tho following cablegram from, Air Pilcher, at Capetown :—Alelntyro, no reply inquiries.. Smith, nothing official, but comrades say a Now Zealander named Smith died of wounds received on sth Alay. Peddle, Brabant’s Horse, released 6th Juno. Inquiring if ho has rejoined his regiment. Following aro the additions to hospital ;—665 Mackay, 533 Garland, 453 Alalcolm. Waimate,' voyage withdrawn without notice. It return Alelhourne will cable Premier. Deaths, fever, Gorrio, Wiggins, Tosswill.

In explanation of the above, it may be stated that Mr Pilcher was asked to make further inquiries about Trooper Mclntyre. ' His message as received gave the name as Angus Mclntyre, but as there is no ‘Angus” Mclntyre, lie was asked to inquire further, with the above result. Mr Pilcher was also asked to get authentic; information about Trooper Lionel Smith, of ’ Stratford. Corporal Paddle, of Brabant’s Horse, has relatives in Napier, and, at their request, tho Government had inquiries made as to his whereabouts. Corporal Peddle was amongst the prisoners released at Watervaal when Lord Roberts entered Pretoria.

'‘With"regardho'Hie"phrase “if retain Melbourne will wire Premier,” it may be explained that the Premier of Victoria a few clays ago wired to Mr Seddon asking him if he would advise him whenever any of our returning convalescents would be passing through Melbourne on their way to New Zealand, so that ho might be able to see they wore properly looked after at that stage of their voyage. Mr Seiddon replied thanking him for his kind offer, and promising that the thoughtful request, would be complied with. He accordingly instructed Mr Pilcher to cable direct to tho Premier of ' Victoria whenever tho occasion demanded. Recently Mr Pilcher advised the New Zealand Government that most v of the convalescents would-be fit to return by the s.s. Waimate. His cable, however, states that the Waimate has been withdrawn without notice, and will not sail as intended.
