The •Acting-Premier states that there is no suspicion of the existence of plague outside' the quarantine area. ’ The Government has obtained {he services of, fin expert from Melbourne to investigate the outbreak. . v MELBOURNE, January-23. • The Victorian Board of Health has declared Adelaide to be an infected port All passengers arriving from there by sea or : rail will be examined. Arrangements have also been made, as'an'extra-precautionary measure, to destroy the- rats on vessels from infected ports. Messrs Johnston and Co., of Wellington, agents for the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company, are advised by cable that, owing to Adelaide having been declared an infected; port through the bubonic plague, passengers cannot embark at that port.
