“NEW ZEALAND MAIL”

SPECIAL CONTINGENT NUMBER. The attention of our readers is called to an announcement mad© in our advertising columns concerning the issue, on Thursday morning next, of a special Contingent Number of our weekly contemporary, the “Now Zealand Mail.” The illustrations, which occupy several pages, deal with almost every phase and incident connected with the despatch of the contingent. Views of camp scenes, of the sham fight, the church parade, tho garden party at Mrs Rhodes’s, the Governor’s inspection at Island Bay, are followed by a fine series of views of the farewell demonstration. In addition there are groups of officers and men, snapshots of interesting and’ humorous scenes in camp, the whole forming a valuable record of a most memorable event. A special full-page panoramic view of the camp is a specially good feature. A number of more or less interesting and well-got-up souvenirs of the contingent have been published, but the special value of the “Mail Special” is that it contains some twenty pages of a well-written record of the doings in camp, the farewells to .officers and men, the demonstration on Saturday last, with reports of speeches, etc., the whole forming a. journalistic chronicle well worth preserving. The social side of the event is dealt with in a special article by the “Mail’s” lady editor, who _gives a lengthy and well-written description of Mrs Rhodes’s garden party and the gubernatorial reception, the dresses worn by the lady visitors at those important society functions being described in detail. Although an exceptionally large issue is being printed, the orders already received from country agents will necessarily diminish the supply of copies available for sale in the city, and in order to prevent disappointment those of our citizens who desire to obtain copies should not fail to send in their orders without delay to the “Times” and “Mail” office," Lambton quay.
