CABINET CHANGES.
1 , MR McGOWAN APPOINTED MINISTER OP MINES.
At a Cabinet sitting yesterday forenoon it was definitely decided that Mr James McGowan, M.H.R. for Thames, should enter the Ministry with the portfolio of Mines. At the same time the Hon Thomas Thompson, who though no longer a member of the Legislature, has continued acting hs Minister of Justice, resigned from the Ministry and retires into private life. The Hon Mr McGowan will, it is understood, be sworn in as a member of the Executive Council in the course of to-day. It may be recalled that Mr McGowan was first elected to Parliament in 1893 as member for the Thames, and has represented that constituency ever since. During his long residence at the Thames ho took a lively interest, in local affairs, and was for years a- mom her of the Borough Council, and lias fulfilled the duties pertaining to the Mayoral chair with credit.
