SPORTING.

VICTORIAN SPORTING. . PRESS ASSOCIATION. Flemington, Tuesday. The Victorian Amateur Turf Club lost close upon £IOOO over its Futurity Meeting. A number of the members of the committee advocate dispensing with such rich stakes. Although it was a beautiful morning with the tracks in excellent condition the proceedings at Flemington were monotonous in the extreme, the New South Wales contingent, wlio appear likely to sweep the board, being responsible for the major portion of good work executed. Dozen beat Crimson easily over six furlongs in Imin SOjsec, and Model finished in front of Cabin Boy and Symmetry in Jsec faster time. Stand-off,single-handed, spurted six furlongs in Imin 20Jsec. Despite his penalty, Mr Earnshaw’s gelding may rim a good race in the Newmarket Handicap. The Undine showed to better advantage than Reka over eleven .furlongs on the sand track, occupying moderate time. ■ Alemene put in a-strong mile, moving freely, her stable companion, Longford, likewise pleasing the touts by his even action. North. British covered seven, furlongs without, apparent exertion in Imin 34-Jsec. Strathroy swung over , a mile with precision like a niece of machinery in Imin 54sec. , Le Var swept round a mile and a half, assisted by Yalelock and Eiridsforde, in 2min 401-sec. • Bolger’s horse is certain to make the best of, his opposers look after their laurels whenever started, 'beachcomber galloped the Newiparket Handicap distance in linin' 20£sec, but though Hopscotch took 3isec longer, there was more actual merit in his performance. • Whichever Mr W. A. Long fancies of this pair should shake the Newmarket.' Received ’February 28, 10 p.m.

Melbourne, Tuesday.

AtFlemingtou to-day Arena ran six furlongs in Imin 2sec, creating a favourable impression. ' At Caulfield Veloce, barefooted/ traversed six furlongs in imin 16sec. Kruger, with plates on, covered the same distance in Imin 17isec. It was a really .good go under the.conditions. Wait-a-Bit took even time _ovcr a quarter mile, ' blit then negotiated another milei ‘ and a' half in 2min 47sec, beating The Dreamer and George Frederick, albeit the performance of the latter caused his claim to a place of distinction in the St. Leger to be favourably criticised. . ■. Wagering was quiet during the day, North British is still furhter hardening for the Newmarket Handicap,, for which Carrara, who has been pleasing the Flemington touts for some days past, now figures at 100 t 0,5.
