THE NEW ZEALAND SUMMER SCHOOL.

The Australasian Students’ Christian Union delegates, to the number of about a hundred, met at Nelson for the opening of their first New Zealand Summer School on Friday evening, 13th inst. This meeting was of a devotional character, and was conducted by Mr W. H. Sallmon, M.A., travelling secretary. Saturday morning was occupied with a business meeting, and in the afternoon a reception was given to the delegates in Christ Church Viparage garden, when speeches of welcome were delivered by the Bishop of Nelson and 'the Maypr, whose words of kindly greeting were acknowledged by Mr S. H. Barraolough, of Sydney. Before the reception, the formed a cycling procession, and visited a few places of interest in and near Nelson. On Sunday several of the pulpits in town were filled by delegates,. and on Monday the regular meetings of the Summer School began. The order of procedure was as follows : —Morning— Missionary Institute, Conference on C.U. Work, Bible Study Class. Afternoon— Sports and excursions. Evening—Public meeting. .The Presbyterian and Baptist schoolrooms have been very kindly placed at the disposal of the Summer School; and the former was comfortably filled at 9.30 a,m, to hear an address and discussion on if Objections to foreign Missions Answered/’ which was most interestingly treated by the Rev H. A, Hankins,' of Te Rau Native College. Mr A. R. Crump, of Prince Albert College, Auckland, conducted the second meeting. At the Baptist Church, addresses were delivered to a crowded audience by the Bishop and the Rev J. H, Mackenzie, B.A.

Tuesday morning’s first meeting was conducted by Mr J. T. McWilliam, of Canterbury College Christian Union, bis topic being: “The Missionary Department of tho Christian Union.” A- short discussion . followed, and at, its close Mr C. Fox, of Prince Albert College, Auckland, proceeded with his paper •on “ Business Methods.” The afternoon was spent by the delegates at a garden party to which Mrs Mules invited them. All re-assembled in the evening toJjear, addresses from .the. •Revs J. F. Hies and S. V. Prior, whose subjects were, respectively “One Thing” and “The Making of a Man.” The choir, under the able leadership of Mr Sharp, of Napier, rendered excellent service at all the meetings.'
