FATAL ACCIDENT AT CROMWELL. Dunedin, May 25.

Alexander Cameron, a working shareholder in the Alpine dredge, near Gromwell, was found dead near the dredge yesterday rooming, partly covered with water. It is supposed that he slipped off a plank while going aboard the dredge on the previous night. THE FROZEN MEAT TRADE. _ Auckland, May 25. SUPPOSED DROWNING CASE. Invercargill, May 25. Patrick Flanagan, a farmer on the west side of Oreti, is supposed to have been drowned while crossing the on Tuesday. He left Winfcon at 4 o'clock for home, and his horse was found to-day with the stirrups across the saddle. The river is in flood. Two days before Mr Flanagan s horse got into a quicksand at the same lord, and Mr Flanagan was thrown, bub he managed to scramble out. WOUNDING WITH AN AXE. Auckland, May 25.

John McL utghlin, a labourer, has been arrested on a charge of wounding a girl named Mary Jane Long, by throwing an axe at her which cut her head, causing a large wound. SNOW IN CHRISTCHURCH. Chbistchobch, May 25. After very heavy rain from the northwest on Queen’s Birthday, rain set in from the south-west at an early hour this morning. To-night the weather is much colder, and there was a alight fall of snow at 9 o’clock.

DEATH OF AN OLD IDENTITY. Inveboabgill, May 25. Captain Jas. Harrald, a very old New Zealander, died on Sunday at Half Moon Bay, Stewart Island, aged 85. ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES AT AUCKLAND. At the inquest on Biohard Downey, who was accidentally killed in Queen street, a verdict of accidental death was returned, and that no blame was attachable to anyone. ~ While James Madigan was excavating a wall at Parnell, the wall collapsed and broke one of his legs.
