THE HOLIDAY.

One of the principal holiday attractions tomorrow will be the Fire Brigade demonstration and sports at the. Basin Reserve; A splendid programme of bicycle and flat races has been drawn up, and is .likely to provide a.good day’s sport for the great multitude which is sure to assemble.

, The parade apd other manoeuvres ot the Volunteers are sure to be watched with great interest. It is not known yet what part, if any, the sailors from the warships will take in the demonstration. . <A levAe will , take place at Government House to-morrow. ■•■■■■

, The entertainment to he given in the Skating Rink to-morrow evening promises to bo a most successful one. By kind permission ot Captain Dioken, the fine band of H.M.S. Boyd Arthur are to piay several grand selections. Signor Bellizzi, chief bandmaster of H.M.S. Royal Arthur, who is said to bo an eminent violin virtuoso, and has had the honour on more than one occasion to perform before Her Majesty, has kindly consented to play two violin solos. The following ladies and gentlemen will also assist in what is promised to be a grand holiday programme !—Mias Hettie Lorraine Tansley (mezzo-soprano), Madame Cadzow (pianist), Mr W. B. Cadzow (tenor), Miss Dora Moatyn (soubrette), Mr Gil P. Hoskins (lightning cartoonist), Mr H. Whitehead (humorist) and a full orchestra of 25 performers. Mr Cadzow is desirous of presenting a programme that will suit the taste of all sections of the audience, viz., lovers of good music and those who coma from the Fire Brigade isports in holiday mood desirous of a hearty laugh. The full programme wid appear in to-morrow’s Issue.

It is certain that a large crowd of sporting folk will take advantage ot the facilities offered them by the Manawatu Railway Company to attend the Otaki racing meeting, one of the most popular fixtures Of the year, and about which our sporting contributor his something to say elsewhere. Amongst the evening attractions will be Mr Durward Lely’s concert at the Opera HoUse, the Nayals* “ social ” at the boathduse, the plain dhd fancy dross ball in connection with Lodge Lady Raufnrly, at Thomas’ Had, the ’• social ” under the aegis ot Iho Sister Wallis Lodge at the Oddfellows’ Ohimbsre, apd the Thistle Club’s “social” at the Foresters’ -Hall. ■ ThA Duchess and Duco will both run excursions to Day’s Bay in connection with the holiday, and their time-table will be found elsewhere.

For thoso who wish to spend a quiet bu‘ pleasant day in the opm air, the Karori pleasure gardens are recommended.
