H.M.B. Torch was the first warship to anchor in sight of Onehunga foe 23 years. The repairs to the barqnentine Bt. Kilda have been completed, and she Is now loading sulpher ore •t Auckland for Sydney. The heavy rain yesterday and the thick fog, kept several of the smaller coasting steamers in port last night. The P. and O. Company’s new steamer Arabia V had her official (rials on tbo Clyde on March 31st, and" subsequently left for London. The Arabia* which was built by Messrs Caird and Co., of Greenock, is a large screw passenger steamer of 8000 tons register, with triple expansion engines, and is capable of steaming at a speed of 18 knots at sea. She is a sister ship of the China and India, belonging to the same company, and is also in* tended lor the India, China and Australian mail services. She left London on her first voyage on April Utb for Bombay. The Rotomabana, from Lyttelton, brought 106 tons cargo for discharge here. Her officers report seeing a brigantine off the Heads. This would be the Lady Mabel, mentioned in oar report of the voyage of the barque G. M. Tucker. The work of fixing the Kawatiri’s shaft was continued all Thursday night, and the steamer left for Westport yesterday morning. The barque Kinfauns is expected to sail for Dunedin on Monday next. No word of a charter has yet reached Captain Crigbton. The Paula was taken up on the patent slip yesterday for her annual inspection. Through striking a snag in the Wairau river on a recent trip from Blenheim, the propeller of the Opawa was loosened. She was put upon the hard at Pipitea yesterday, where the defect was re* paired. The Opawa leaves for Blenheim to-day. Included in her cargo will be a transhipment of 190 oases of kerosene from the ship Concordia. The Westralia at Napier bad to rely on tenders to discharge her passengers and cargo, the sea being too heavy to permit of her being berthed at the Glasgow Wharf. Her oargo for Wellington consisted of some 200 tons, in addition to which she had 300 tons for through ports. Mr Boarke is now second officer. Advice from Christchurch informs us that the schooner Morning Light has been chartered to load produce at Lyttelton for Wellington. Tbo Shaw, S.will and Albion Company’s steamship Aotea left Plymouth for Wellington and Lyttelton, via Hobart, on the 14th inst. News was received at Auckland on Tuesday last to the effect that the cutter Wanderer was ashore between AJarsden Point and Ruakaka in a disabled condition. She is owned by Mr Robert Smith and Mrs Alice Louin, of Auckland, and has been engaged in the coastal trado for many years. She was built at Coromandel in 1881, and is of the following dimensions Length, 47ft 6in; breadth, I6ft Sin ; depth, 6ft. The Rosamond was placed in the Lyttelton dock on Thursday afternoon for a cleaning and painting. Two thousand tons of produce were shipped away from Lyttelton on Wednesday and Thursday this week. O. M. TUGGER, FROM NEWCASTLE. The well-known barque G. M. Tucker arrived off the Heads on Thursday night, bat the wind falling away she-was unable to make port. The tug Duco went to her assistance yesterday and towed her in, the vessel being berthed at once at Jervols quay. Captain Holm reports that be hod fine weather until the 7th inst., on which day be made the land off Rooks Point, when a gale sprang up from the northeast, accompanied by heavy rain, which gradually increased. On Sunday the gale was at its height, with an awful sea running of so confused a nature that whichever way the vessel's head was put the seas seemed to striae her amidships. This continued on the Monday, the ship being hove-to the wboie time. The state of the weather oan be judged from the fact that the barometer at 1.30 p m. on the 9th showed the phenomenally low reading of 28*92. The weather moderated oa the 10th, but was still very equally, the vessel making practically no progj ess. The weather then gradually moderated, light winds and calms being experienced in the Strolls. Captain Holm reports that no damage was done, and that the Tucker behaved splendidly throughout the storm. The brigantine Lady Mabel, bound from Newcastle to Napier, was sighted off the Heads yesterday morning. The G.M. Tucker brings 700 tons of coal, consigned to Mr W. C. Gasqaolne. On discharge she Is to load Umbos at Wellington for Sydney.
