Mr Murdoch McLeod, an old Hawke’s Bay settler and politician, died at Clarevdlo on Satin day from complications supervening rheumatic fever.
Mr J. H. Hompfcon, of the Customs Department, who has been transform back to \\ elliugtou as chief clerk, assumed his new duties on Monday last. Mr Clement L. Wraggc, # Government Meteorologist, writes to a Brisbane pap?T denying that ho saw the late Colonel ft. K. Me W. Lingrrd.son of the Ven Archdeacon Liugard, of Christchurch, is now a member of the firm of Grotschier, Lingard and Spencer, of Dawson City, mining-brokers, land agents, and originators and compilers of the Dawson C*ty and Yukon Directory, At New Plymouth last week Mr J. B. Koy (the late Mayor) and Mrs Koy were made tbo recipients of very handsome presents from the Borough Council. The present to Mr Boy consisted of a gold watch and chain, A silver cradle was presented to Mrs Koy iu commemoration of the birth of a son during Mr Koy’s occupancy of tho Mayoral cha : r. Count da Courte, tho now French Consul for Wellington, accompanied by hU wife, arrived from Onehtinga by the Roroiti Uat night, having coma from Sydney via Auckland, Mr A. A. c>. Meuteath (Acting-Frcueh Cousu-) and several French residents mat ibo new Consul. Ihe Count and his wife are staying at the Royal Oak Hotel.
