MR DUTHIE AND THE ELECTIONS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sib,—As a mechanic and native of this city, I should like to know who is this prophet who cries that the country shall fall, that capital is flying- away ? He declares that industry is being crippled, the Government shall fall, there shall be a large deficit, the measures are good, the administration is corrupt, bribery is rampant, the finance of Liberal Governments was always unsound —shall always be so. The publicans and brewers shall fall, they should leave the Government candidates and vote for Prohibitionists. This Jeremiah cries: New Zealand will go down. (So said Eugene.) So sure as you do this or that the Bank of New Zealand will go down. If Mr Fraser had been at the North Pole, three Tories would have been elected.* Sir, is this political Jonah the man who took Wellington by storm in 1890 and secured second place? Is this the prophet who secured a seat in 1893 through 11 candidates being in the field? The Hon John Ballanoe steadied this great man, and other men in the House have taken him to task. Not one of his prophecies has been fulfilled, and I hope never will. —I am, &c., Geo. Jackson. •
