CRICKET.
NEW ZEALAND v. QUEENSLAND. The following players have been selected to represent the Colony in.tho match against the Queenslanders, to be played hero on the 2dtb, 38bh and 29tb inst. Cuff, Neill, Wright (Auckland), Lusk (Hawke’s Bay), Holdship and Upbam (Wellington), De Maus, Pearce and Ridley (Canterbury), Baker and Fisher (Otago). Williams (Wellington) and Downes (Otago) would, of course, have been • chosen, 4 but they are unable to take. fcart. Wright would no doubt have made room for Willianu, and probably one of the weakest of the batsmen for the crack Southern bowler. Tho team is good in all departments, eapeciallyin batting, for, with tho exception of Upbam, they are all run-gettora. - Lusk, it is pleasing to note, has at last received a place. Ho is in excellent form, * and « should fully justify his inclusion. A noticeable absentee is Clark, the ex-New South Welshman, who, up to the present, has always boon chosen to represent the Colony, but so far his play has not warranted his inclusion! DeMaus, while scarcely tho player of a fgW seasons back, when he was said to bo almost worthy of a place in an Australian eleven, is still too good to be lett out. Cuff, Fisher and Pearce are a tried and true Brio, and tho team would not bo complete without. them. Holdship no doubt owes his. inclusicn to his general usefulness. With the:bat in test matches ho has so far not been a success. Neill, as a slow bowler, good field and an’excellent batsman, and Baker and Ridley, as good batsmen ■and fieldsmen, should not be objected to. Of course, if Wright is as.good a man behind the sticks as he is represented to be, then no mistake has been rpade in choosing him. but it ia always. doubtful whether it ia a good policy to select &u inferior wicketkeeper because he is also a good bat, as against a nrst-claee wicketkeeper* who' does not add run-getting. to his qualifications. The selectors hove, and wisely, wo think, chosen the team in view of the “ all-round ” abilities of tho players. Take it for all in all. it is a good combination, amt well worthy to represent the Colony, . By Telegraph,—Press AeeqciaMon.—Copyright. Hodart, December 14. The Tasmanian team, in its second innings against the Australians, made 311 (Burns 27, Savigny and McLeod 26 each). -The Australians made the 54 required to win the match for the loss of three wickets.. Dunedin, December 14. In the Senior Cup matches on Saturday, Liggins, for Carisbrook, playing against Opoho, compiled 102 runs in faultless stylo. Grange made 108 for no wickets against Albion, Baker contributing 45, and Johnston 51. Tho following is the drawing for the Junior Championship on December 19 and January 9; —No. 3 wicket. Midland v. Excelsior; College ground, Phcsnix v. Rival; Potono ground, Wellington v. Tetono. The Hairdressers Club will play a match on the Basin Ref.erVo. to-morrow. .
