PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

A mooting of the Potono Borough Council was hold at the Borough Offices last night ; present—The Mayor (presiding), Councillors JVlothcs, Corner, Ballinger, Cook, Austin, Findlay, Fraser, Castles and Lusty. Mr 1. Rodgers wrote resigning the position of ranger. Messrs McOmlU and Lamborg, contractors for the drainage extension, wrote informing the Counoil that they had stopped work for a few days owing to non-delivery of bricks, and asking that the Council have the bricks inspected at the brickyard. The .report of the- Works Committee was then considered. Clause 1 was carried, as follows:—“That Mr Seaton bo informed that the Council agrees to bis suggestion for the termination of bis engagement as Drainage Engineer as on the 30th ult.” Clause 2 was na follows:—“That Mr A, Cowio bo offered the position of Drainage and Borough Engineer on a monthly engagement at a salary of .£251) per annum, as from the Ist inst.” To tills Councillor Ballinger moved an amendment that Mr Cowio bo paid JL'225 a year. The Mayor, • Councillors Findlay, Cua'Jeal Mothoa and Fraser supported the recommendation of the committee, and it was carried, the amendment being lost. To clause 3 of the committee’s report, “That Mr Cowio bo instructed to adverti-jo* for tenders for cleaning Morin’s creek, tenders to bo lodged with the Town Clerk before 4 o’clock on Wednesday/’ the Mayor moved that Councillors MotUos, BalHngsr, Findlay and the mover bo a committee to Consider and accept the tenders. Clauses 4 and 5 wore agreed to: —“ That the Mayor Coraiminicato with Mr Buiok as to crossing over stop-bank/* “ With regard to drain connections for Wotkihg Men’s Club, that the Council put in connection as required, On same terms Is others.” With regard to clause 6, “ That inquiries be made as to the usual custom of corporations with regard to supplying their engineers with instruments,” the Mayor stated that he hod made enquiry od this stibjoct, ftnu found that it was usual for corporations to supply thh instruments. An offer had boon made by Mr Dauiant to supply instru* liionts at •£l4. The Couiloil decided to accept this offer, an amendment to the contrary being rejected. , With', reference to clause 7, “ That Mr Qdwio procure a pride for the completion of a ctllvert over Hiddlor’s creek at the main road,” Mr Mildonhali wrote offering to complete 32 feet of 3 x 2 culvert for .£l4.—The master was allowed to stand over. The following clauses of the report were agreed to 9. ” That new license bo granted to the Goar Moat Preserving and Freezing Company, Limited.” 10. “ That Mr Keen’s solicitors be informed that the Corporation seal cannot be fixed to the subdivisional plan submitted until that part of the drainage at present possible has been computed, and until security has been given that the balance will be completed as soon as the main culvert has been constructed as far as Regent street corner.” A statement was made by the Mayor to the effect that the trustees of the late Mr Manning would forfeit the bond of .£SO to the Council, and that the Council continue Victoria street themselves. It was resolved, on the motion of Councillor Lusty, that tenders bo called for the continuation of Victoria street through the late Mr Manning’s property. •
