At Mr Mac Duff Boyd’s concert last night 1 the Minister of Education, on behalf of Mr Boyd, presented a handsomely-bound volume of music to Miss Ritchey, who ie> leaving for Australia. Tho Hon Mr Walker remarked that New Zealand had sent many young ladies and gentlemen to Australia and the old country, and they had done us credit and themselves credit. They all sincerely hoped that Miss Ritchey’s future career would be successful. The presentation was greeted with loud applause.
Captain Campbell, of the Southern Cross, yesterday received a telegram from Napier to tho effect that Mr Williams, second officer of tho steamer, had regained consciousness, but his right side was paralysed, Mr Williams, it will b© remembered, was taken to, the Napier Hospital some weeks ago in a condition which could not at first be accounted for by the local medical men. Sinco then he had up till yesterday remained same—just alive—and now his numerous friends will be glad to hear of tho improvement in his health. -
