Tht* first but of three oi the annual rifle matches between tlio Wellington Guards and Welling: on City Rifles took placo on Saturday at the Pol hill Gully range, the ooUditxons being 300, 500 and GOO yards, 10 men & aide, seven allots at each range. The City Rifles, dt tho finish of the 300 yards, led the Guards by the small number of 3 points, but at the finish of.the 500 yards the Guards, who were still confident, bad put ou tho fine score of 303 points, whilst the City Rifles only bettered their first range score by 3 points, the Guards thus gaining a lead of which at GOO yards they increased to 20. The winning team are to bo congratulated on thoir fine score of 838 points, as it is tho best that has been mado at Polbill Gully range for team shooting of 10 men at 300, 500 aud GOO yards.
