Followingtbo lead of Palmerston, Martou has evolved an Exhibition which was opened last evening by the Mayor, who, in performing this' ceremony, very gracefully performed tho last notable act ot his official life. The Exhibition, which was held ill the Drill Hall, Comprised ttlb attistlo and inddstflal products of many of the homes ot tho district. Some fretwork, the contribution chiefly of the school boys, was particularly admired, and pictures, tapestries and needlework, added to many Maori curios and family heirlooms, made up a very attractive exhibition. The grouping, hanging and general disposal of tho exhibits was entrusted to Ur Billens, the talented artist, whose taste and assiduity wore well in evidence. The Marten Band, which has now reached- a high pitch of musical excellence, kindly contributed . to the success of the occasion. The Exhibition would hal o been, held )n the TheattU Royal bub fob bile refiisdl of the iliSurahoß companies to cover the risk.
