Modjeska owns valuable property in Colorado, Poland, and elsewhere, whilst Mrs Langtry and Lilian Bussell have not only a fortune in the diamonds which they possess, but are also in possession of real estate to some consider' able amount. Christine Nilsson ie another example of success. Sarah Bernhardt, who has spent fortunes, still owns a valuable 1 estate in France. Madame Albani, the brothers De Eeszke, and Edward Lloyd are all noted in their professions for the wealth which they have earned and managed to accumulate. Mmo. Nordica cannot complain that her country-women are indifferent to her art, as a presentation she has just received at New York fully testifies. Certain lady admirers formed themselves into a committee and collected subscriptions, limited to £2 each, for the purchase of a tiara of 233 diamonds, and valued at over £IOOO. There is a band of gold at its base, bat the setting of the stones is in platinum, a new device which imparts extra brilliancy to the diamonds.
