Thomas McLean, the assistant steward on the steamer Australasian, who fatally stabbed a fellow-steward named Coulson, and was convicted of manslaughter, has been sentenced to throe years’ imprisonment. Brisbane, October 16. H.M.S. Royalist has arrived at Cairns. The captain reports having investigated the murder of Mr Atkinson by natives of tho Solomon Group. Six natives were sent to Fiji for trial, one was shot by friendly natives, and one escaped. Hobart, October 16. The Governor has declined to asserit to a Bill which provides that a Judge may be appointed without the sanction of Parliament. Melbourne, October 16. , Mr Walter Miles, aged 31. son of Mr Edward Bides, chief clerk in the Victorian Racing Club office, died yesterday, after a few days’ illness from influenza. .
