MANGAWEKA.

From a Correspondent . Manga weka, October 9. This town and district is moving ahead rapidly. Over thirty now buildings have been erected since tho land sale in March last. A number of new settlers in the re-cently-sold Awarua Block are putting in an appearance, and a demand has arisen for town sections, as they cannot very well settle on their farms till after tho bush is felled and burned. The grass growing capabilities of this district are unmistakably evident in last year’s burns ; it is luxuriant. In the Kawatau improved small farm settlement tho grass is growing rank and going to waste for want of stock, which could not bo taken across the river for want of a bridge. An intimation that a public meeting would be held in the schoolroom for the purpose of urging the Government to proceed with the erection of abridge across the Bangitikei at this place resulted in an overflowing meeting, showing unmistakably that this is the most vital question of the day here. Mr T. Mvmro, who was voted to the chair, spoke as to the necessity for the bridge, and said a bridge at this place would open up largo blocks of valuable land still in the hands of the Crown, besides opening up communication with the Kawatau improved settlement, Marton small farms, Eangiwabia, Pemberton, .Birmingham, Feilding, &c. A series of resolutions were adopted and a petition was largely signedinthe room, also a deputation, consisting of Messrs Munro, Johnston, Bacovich and Crowley, appointed to proceed to Wellington to present the petition: and secure the co-operation of our member in urging our claims upon the Government,
