At Fleming ton this morning Hova and Newman (the latter with a light boy up) finished together at the end of a mile and a quarter gallop in 2mln 16soo. Lord Richmond and Royal Master occupied a second and a half longer over a similar journey. The former took matters very comfortably, being evidently much superior to his stable companion. Biridsfordo and Taranaki galloped a strong mile on the tan in good stylo. Preston is likely to be reserved for Melbourne, and there are signs of his being eased In the quotations for tho Caulfield Cup. Wallace bos advanced for the Derby, and the boat offer against the son of Carbine for the bine riband is 6 to 4, and for the Melbourne Cup 100 to 7. For the Melbourne Cup, 2000 to 100 has bean taken about Elawick, 1000 to 40 Taranaki, 2000 to 60 Rewi. There is a considerable reduction in tho number of general entries for tho V.B.C. Mooting. Delaware, Tho Trior, Brooklelgh, Oxide, True Blue and Watorbury are likely contestants from New South Wales.

Owing to a partial dislocation of tho fetlock in the Toorak Handicap on Saturday, Royal Rose has been placed in tho hands of Mr Allan, veterinary surgeon. The symptoms are not considered serious, but ho will be unable to race for some time. Abo Davies, owner of Hova, is likely to appeal against tho decision of tho Caulfield stewards in oonneation with his protest against Atlas on the grounds of interference In the Caulfield Stakes. Eiridstorde, Monastery and Waterfall have each incurred 31b penalty for the Caulfield Cup. Received October 15, 10,20 p.m. Melbourne, October 15. Trenchant is receiving further support for the Caulfield Cup at 100 to 8, and 2000 to 60 hM bean taken about Newman. By Telegraph.—Frees Association, Auckland, October 15. Tho scratching of bt. Hippo for the New Zealand Cup and all other engagements at the C.J.O. Spring Mooting has been forwarded to Christchurch. The racehorse Lady Marion is on board the Takapnna bound for Christchurch. Mr N. Lawry, tho owner, is also bn board. The hack Daisy Bell also came down by tho Tnkapuna. A deputation representing all the Canterbury Trotting Clnbs waited upon tho Colonial Secretary yesterday. They were introduced by Mr Tanner, and were accompanied

by tbo Hons Reeves, Stevens and Walker, and Mosers G, W. Bussell, McLachlan, Lawry, T. Thompson and Major Steward, M’s.H.R. The deputation complained that under the Act passed last session an undue proportion of totalizator permits was proposed to be issued to racing as against trotting clubs. Sir Patrick Buckley, in reply, stated that tho question of allocation was a most difficult one. So many conflicting representations had been made that, despairing of meeting tho wishes expressed to him, ho would suggest to the department the advisability of getting the Act repealed. While admitting that the division of meetings racing and trotting clubs might be open to criticism, he would recommend mutual arrangements between tbo representatives of tho two forms of sport, failing wbieh he could bold out no hope of alteration.
