In' the Cape Colony Legislative Assembly Mr Cecil Rhodes, the Premier, said the Imperial Government- had spent £2, 500,000 upon Beehuanaland, which it now handed over without obligations.. THE LIVE CATTLE TRADE. London, August 1. The Gulf of Siam’s horses and cattle died from congestion of the lungs caused by intense cold daring the first fortnight. The best horses died. [ ■ The underwriters have agreed to insure live cattle: for 10 guineas per cent. iLondon, August !. The directors and committee of deben-ture-holders in Goldsbrougb and Co. havo agreed upon a scheme. The committee will issue a! circular urging the holders to accept It; as the'best arrangement possible under the'circumstances. ;, In a letter thanking the electors of South Down who voted for him, Mr Rowan ■ attributes his defeat by Mr McCartan (the Nationalist sitting’ member) to ignorance; superstition and illiterate brute force.
