MR BARNETT’S CONCERT.
Mr Maughan Barnett’s second piano recital (second series) was given last evening in the Gallery of Fine Arts before a large audience, which included His Excellency the Governor, Lady Alice Boyle and a party from Government House. Mr ■ Barnett’s items, all of which were loudly applauded, included the great “ Funeral March ” sonata in A flat, by Beethoven, and a solo comprising Schubert’s miuuetto, an arrangement by Liszt of a “ Romance ” by Wagner, and Liszt’s arrangement of Schubert’s famous “ Erl King.” Grieg’s impressive Sonata in F Major for piano and violin was admirably played by Messrs Barnett and A. F. Hill. Mr Hill contributed two violin solos, the adagio from Spohr’s “ Eleventh Concerto,” and a charming solo comprising one of Mr Hill’s own compositions, and a barcarolle by Hans Sitt. A very fine Brinsraead piano was furnished by the Dresden Piano Company. The third concert of the series is to be given on Wednesday afternoon, July 17th.
