CHAMPION CYCLING RACE.
The uO-raile Champion Road Race of tho Wellington Cycling Club took placo on Saturday aftemdon, tho course being from the Telegraph Exchange to Mungaroa and back. live men, viz., Messrs Lucy, Herbert, Fabian, Smith and Niohol, faced tho starter, Muir and Hunt, tho other two who entered, not starting. Nichol and Fabian in turn led all the way to the turning point, and on the homeward journey as far as the Taitn, when Lucy took the lead, but was overtaken by Smith and Fabian, who then in turn led. ' At Ngahauranga Smith was leading, when ho met with an accident and injuied his pedal. Fabian here passed him, and maintained the lead to the finish, covering the distance in 2hrs 56min 3seo, with Smith 2seo behind him. Herbert had a spill after leaving Mungaroa, but luckily did not damage his machine. He and Lucy tied for third place. Nichol gave up at Petone. Mr H. Coombes was starter, and Messrs W. Boss and D. Brand acted as timekeeper and judge respectively.
