THE PETONE DRAINAGE SCHEME.

In accordance with the Municipal Corporations Act it is necessary for the Petone Borough Council to obtain the consent of the Harbour Board to the drainage scheme for Petone, designed by Mr J. P. Maxwell, with its various outfalls, before proceeding with the work. An application for the necessary permission was made to the Board-yesterday by the Mayor of Petone (Mr E. C. Kirk). In his letter Mr Kirk statedjthat the drainage discharge on to the beach would bo so diluted with subsoil, surface and artesian water that it was anticipated that no nuisance could arise from the discharge. After some discussion, it was decided to defer consideration of the matter until further information had been received from tho Borough Council. ,
