ADVANCES TO SETTLERS.
MEETING OF THE LENDING BOARD. The first meeting of the General Lending Board established under the Government Advances to Settlors Act was hold yesterday afternoon. There were present—The Superintendent (Mr J. K. Warburton), the Colonial Treasurer (Hon J. G. Ward), the Government Insurance Commissioner (Mr J. H. Richardson), the Commissioner of Taxes (Mr J. McGowan), and the Secretary to the Treasury (Mr J, B. Hey wood). The only members absent were the SurveyorGeneral (Mr S. Percy Smith) and the Solicitor-General (Mr W. S. Eeid). The Superintendent occupied the chair.
The particulars given in our last issue as to number of applications for advances, total amount applied for and stated value of , security offered proved to. be substantially correct. As the only business before the meeting was to arrange for the valuations it was resolved to leave the selection of the local valuers in the hands of the Superintendent, who will accordingly now take the requisite steps for that purpose. Meetings will be bold from time to time as the valuations come in to decide in each case as to the granting of advances.
