THE TREASURER’S MISSION.

PROPOSALS FOE RECIPROCITY. TEMPORARY READJUSTMENT OF PORTFOLIOS. The Hon J. G. Ward, Colonial Treasurer, proceeds to England with the unanimous approval of his colleagues, who have deputed him to attend to matters of an important character affecting the welfare of the Colony. He has also been appoint, l ,! to represent the Colony at the Interoolonit i Postal Conference, which sits at Hobart on the Ist pros., and ho has further been empowered by Cabinet to meet the Premiers of the Australian Colonies, who will be assembled at Hobart, to formulate and discuss proposals for reciprocity. Mr Ward will return to the Colony about the middle of May, and during his absence his various departments will bo administered by his colleagues. Departmental Treasury matters will bo dealt with by the Premier, whilst the Hon Mr McKenzie will conduct the Government Insurance, Public Trust, the Advances to Settlers, and the Industries and Commerce Departments. The Hon Mr Reeves will direct tho Customs and Marine Department, and the Hon Mr Cadman tho Post and Telegraph Department. Sir Patrick Buckley will relieve tho Hon Mr Cadman of tho control of tho Government Printing office. Tho Treasurer leaves Wellington for the South to-morrow afternoon by the Wakatipu, and will take his departure from the Bluff on 29th inst. After finishing his business at the Postal Conference he will sail for England, via Suez, in the s.s. Orotava. He will probably return by way of San Francisco.
