HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of the Hutt County Council was held yesterday. Present : Councillors H. Cook (chairman), J. Wakehara, D. Speedy,- C. W. Brown, W, Jillett, F, A. MajeUdie, F. Bradey, 11. A. Field and G. Brown.

Councillor Bradey reported that he had seen to a nuisance caused by bad fish at Paremata, and that the parties interested had explained that it was the result of an accident, and Should not occur again. A letter was read from the AssistantSurveyor General stating that -£IOO bad been granted for i repairs on the Hutt* ■Wajkanap road, rand requesting that plans, &0,, be sent for approval. The Undersecretary for Lands also wrote to the same effect, and enclosed a copy of an agreement to bo signed by the chairman. Qn the motion of Councillor Speedy, seconded by Councillor G. W. Brown, it was decided that the grant bo accepted, apd that the Inspector prepare plans and specifications of the work to be. let either by contract oy day labour. ■ It was resolved that Councillors Speedy and Field have authority to open afoot track on the Hntt-Waikanao road.

The Assistant Surveyor-General wrote stating that Mr Mason’s plan of a road near Belmont Bailway Station had been examined and found correct, but before being approved it would bo necessary to obtain the consent, of owners to the road being closed, and enclosing forms for that purpose. The writer further stated that the Connell should pass a resolution legalising the proposed road. The Council resolved to approve of the ; taking and legalising of the road. • Counsel’s opinion was received advising that the Bailway Commissioners are liable for the construction, of the crossing asked for near Hayward’s. Tho Commissioners wrote stating that tho crossing can only bo made at the' cost of the Council. It was resolved that tho question boleft in abeyance for a short time.

The manager of the Colonial Bank wrote stating that he was willing to reduce the rate of interest on the overdraft to 7 per cent. On the motion of Councillor Majendie, seconded by Councillor Field, it was resolved that the chairman and clerk interview the bank manager with a view of getting the interest further reduced after March 31st next, accepting the manager’s offer of 7 per cent, for the intervening period.
