INTERPROVINCIAL MESSAGES.

Tho Christchurch Bootmakers’ Union have passed a resolution expressing the opinion that the Board of Governors of Canterbury College, instead of being elected by the graduates only, should be elected by tho people on tho one man one vote principle. An opinion was also expressed in favour of the perpetual leasq system. It was resolved that the Union strongly protests against the action of the Government again shelving the revision of the Customs tariff, and asks the Canterbury members to use their influence with the Government with a view of getting the question dealt with this session. Auckland, August 4. The claim of tho Union Company for salvage on account of the Rotomahana towing the barque Examiner into Russell is stated to be .£230. Mr Lang, dairy expert, has returned from his tour in the Kaipara district. The roads were very unfavourable for travelling, but he thinks his trip will ultimately result in establishing several dairy factories in those districts. He intends to make a visit in a short time to the Bay of Plenty, and from Katikati on towards Opotiki. Dunedin, August 5. The teachers of Otago last night presented Mr Petrie with a silver salver and a silver tea service for his wife. All the speakers bore testimony to tho value of his services, and credited him with raising the standard of education in Otago. Strong speeches were made in favour of equalising salaries, and the Education Department taking over the inspectorate. Westpoht,’ August 4. The coal export for tho week ending today was 4280 tons, of which 3504 tons were by the Westport Company, and 776 tons by the Mokihiuui Company. Gbetmouth, August C. The coal export for the week was 3999 tons.
