ANTICIPATIONS BY ‘VIGILANT.’ Although the acceptances for the Thompson Handicap are not so numerous as expected, there is every prospect of excellent sport at the Hutt to-moirow and Thursday. Yesterday morning owing to the heavy ruin in the night the training gallops were in a very bad state, and although all the horses which have arrived were out, no fast work could be done. The Workman, Stepniak, Heather Bell, Kulnine, Noyade, Westmere anl Lakeshellrfpleased their supporters very much, all appearing to be in the acme of health and condition. My tips for tc-morrow are as follow ; Trial Handicap—Prioress, 1; Little Scrub, 2; Tuhiturata, 3. Hurdle Handicap—Bide-a-Wee, X;Oaklands, 2; Aorere, 3. Thompson Handicap—For this only eight have accepted, but quality if not quantity is well represented, ami a slashing race may be expected. Since I selected The Workman I have inspected him at the Hutt, and he pleased me exceedingly, being as bright as a star and apparently in splendid fettle. Whatever beats him will, I think, win. Melinite, Thame, Kubdne, Ki ina and Heather Bell are all well hacked, and on the Christchurch running Kuluine, with 51b less than he c irried into second place in the Great Easter Handicap, ought to be the best, although I have a sneaking fancy for Krina, Rangipuhi and Stranger are ia my opinion scarcely class enough for the company. From the.-e remarks it will be seen that my fiual tip is

The Workman Kulnine Krina Stewards’ Handicap, one mile and a furlong— Rangipuhi, 1; Heather Bell, 2; Musket, 3. Juvenile Handicap, six furlongs—Noyade, 1; Lakeshell, 2 ; Westmere, 3, Railway Handicap, six furlongs Wakawatea, 1; Le Grand, 2 ; Prioress, 3, For the Hack Flat Handicap, Jack, Bst 7lb, Brookfield, B.*t 10ib, Sea Serpent, Sst 61b, and Bouovoree, 8-»t 51b, are moat in favour, and tho best conditioned on the day should win. For the Hack Hurdle Race, Makomako, lOst 10lb, and Twilight, lOat 21b, are the favourites.

A special meeting of the stewards of tho Wellington Racing Club was held yesterday afternoon for the purpose of electing a judge for the rest of the season, Mr E. Pearce, the holder of the office, being away from the Colony. The position was offered toMrT. G. McCarthy, but that gentleman declined to accept it because he would be unable to attend. Mr G, H. Scales was then elected and consented to officiate for the rest of the season.
