PROHIBITION IN DUNEDIN.
WHOLESALE WITHDRAWAL OF LICENSES. (press ASSOCIATION.) Dunedin, Jane 3. The City Licensing Beach unexpectedly intimated at the annual meeting to-day that the licences for the following hotels would be taken away on the ground that they were not required in the neighborhood:—The Newmarket Hotel, Manor place; Grange Hotel, Hanover street; National Hotel, King street; York Hotel, George street; London Hotel and Wains' Hotel, Princes street; Occidental Hotel, High street; White Horse Hotel, George street ; and Liverpool Arms Hotel, Filleul street. On the application of counsel tbs Bench adjourned its decision for a fortnight in all these oases. The licensee of tbs Caledonian Hotel, Walker street, withdrew his application. Late*. At the licensing meeting a license was granted to a new applicant, and it was an old licensee who withdrew hie application.
