LAND BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Land Board was held yesterday. Present—Messrs J. H. Baker (Commissioner), A. W. Hogg, W. MoCardle, W. A. B’itzherbert and D. H. Maoarthur. Mr J. Gardiner applied for the title of his Section 8, Block VIII., Makuii, stating that be had made the necessary improvements according to the Act. On the the motion of Mr McCardle it was decided to grant the issue of the title on receipt of the report being favourable. The following applications for titles were granted : —Mr T. Wood, Section C 3, Block IX., Pohangina; Mr J. V. Smith, Section 7, Block 111., VVairoa j J. 6. Harris, Section 38, Block XIII., Apiti; J. Boury, Section 14, Block XII., Mangahao. The following applications for titles were granted, subject to the usual certificate; W. Port, Section 22, Block X., Pohangina; E, Barrett, Section 47, Block VII. Apiti; J. C. Roofe, Section 61, Block IX,, Pohangina; A. L. McDonald, Section 15, Block V., Waipakura. In connection with the application of Mr W. W. MoCardle, Jun., for a title of part of Section 84, Block VII., Mangahao, the Board decided to grant it, providing a full statement of the improvements be obtained from the occupier. The following applications for transfers were granted : J. Murphy to J. Malone, Section 9, Block VIII. Apiti ; G Hamilton to J. Alexander, Section 27, Block XIII., Momohakl; R. S. Kerman to A. MoKenzle, Section 7, Block XV., Tiriraukawa ; F. Jackson to A. Watt, section IS, Block 111., Apiti. The following transfers were granted, subject to favourable reports being received from rangers : —J. James to A. Watt, Section 19, Block 111., Mangahao ; J. Tennant to P. Henneasy, Section 32, Block IV„ Ongo; G. Wood to J. Andrews, Section 24, Block VII., Tararua; P, Reid to O. S. and T. R. Tyerman, Section 14, Block XI., AjJiti. Mr D. Kano wrote with reference to the issue of the title for Section 100, Hunterville, and as to his not having complied with the conditions of bis license. The Board refused to grant the title until he had ringfenced the section. Extension of time for grassing was granted to J, MoCTenaghan on Section 11, Block IV., Apiti. J. Waugh applied to be exempt from residence on Section 54, Block XIII., Apiti.—Refused. The applications of Messrs G. R. Benoison and J. R. Smith to capitalise were left to the Commissioner to deal with as he thinks best. It was resolved to cancel the interest of the selector of Section 39, Block X., Pohangina, for non-compliauoa with the conditions of the Act. It was resolved to offer Section 207, Himterville Village Settle ment, under the Publio Reserves Act, for a term of seven years ; upset rental not to be less thsn 10s per annum. With reference to the petition from selectors in the Wellington Special Settlement Block, that the Board insist on compliance with the conditions of improvements, the Board decided that all the defaulters will be oilled upon to effect their improvements forthwith. Mr W. H. Field waited on the Board in refer, ence to the cancellation of Section 10, Block IV., Omahini, and asked that the cancellation be rescinded. It was decided that the cancellation would be rescinded provided a statement was received from Miss Field that a contract was let and thrown up by the contractor. Messrs Barry and Cullinane waited on the Board with reference to the supposed evasion of the Act by Mr W. Kennedy, selector of section 26, Block V., Oma* hiui, and stated thepariioulars of the case. It was resolved to ask Mr Kennedy to supply an affidavit as to the circumstances of the case and pass the transfer, provided the Board is satisfied. Mr Farrelly waited on the Board with reference to the transfer from W. W. Hodman of Section 43, Block XI., Mangahao. The Board resolved to obtain the ranger’s report before granting the applioa. tied. The Commissioner brought under the notice of the Board the question of improvements whioh were required to be done before selectors could obtain thoir titles. After discussion, Mr Hogg moved, and Mr Maoarthur seconded, That the Government be requested to obtain an opinion from the Grown Prosecutor or Crown Law Officer on the point —Carried. On the motion of Mr Maoarthur, seconded by Mr Hogg, It was agreed to rescind the resolution of April 30th, 1891, compelling Mrs Hicks to reside on Section 7, Block IX., Apiti.
