RIVAL FROZEN MEAT COMPANIES.

(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Blenheim, April 21

A meeting of farmers was held to-day to consider the refutation by Mr Millward, Secretary of the Gear Meat Company, of statements made by Mr Neieon at a meeting lon the 11th April. The delegate traversed the statements made at that meeting, which he considered detrimental to the Gear Company, particularly as to the rates for freezing and the number of sheep being put through daily by that Company. He also showed, as had been admitted ia a letter to the Marlborough Express, from Mr Nelson, that certain rates had been misquoted, and offered, if opportunity were afforded, to give the Marlborough sbeepfarmers higher prices and greater privileges than they would secure under the present system. The ques tions asked were mainly directed to the advantages likely to bo secured by introducing the Gear Company in pre ferenco to Kelson Bros. Mr Millward, in answer to a large eheepowner, named Carter, who urged that on the ground of misrepresentation the farmers would be justified in withdrawiag from their guar, antee, deprecated the idea, but said that at anytime if the Gear Company could do anything for the district it would willingly do so.
