The Government have communicated with the authorities in India, drawing attention to the increasing immigration of Afghans and Indians into Ninety-three have arrived during the last six months. They are principally hawkers, for whom there is no employment.

Parliament will open on 19th May. The annual meeting of the Mutual Life Association of Australasia was held to-day. The report, which was adopted, showed a large increase in the revenue, which now amounts to L 195,000 per annum, and that there had been a satisfactory retention of business, which now amounted to nearly L 4,300,000. It also showed that the Association had had a favourable mortality experience.. Messrs Brunker and Dickenson wete re-elected Directors. A fourth
declaration of bonus is promised at the end of December next. Heavy rain has fallen throughout the Colonies.
Melbourne, April 20. Gable’s flourmills at Port Fairy have been destroyed by Are. The damage is estimated at LSOOO. The Now Zealand Insurance Company has a lino of LIOOO on the premises. Sir Henry Parkcs will visit Air J. Munro, Premier of Victoria, during the week, to consult him on federation matters.
