(Received April 19, 1.25a.m.) THE FLOODS IN NEW SOUTH WALES. Stdnet, April 18. Information has been received tonight that the town of Bourke is flooded, and all are doing the best to save themselves'. Boats are being pulled through the streets rescuing people from their homes. The night is very black and dark. No details are yet to hand. Walgett is in a terrible condition, and an epidemic of fever is feared owing to the stench arising from the dead animals. [From Sydney exchanges we learn that it was anticipated that by Sunday last the river at Bourke would be 42ft above its average height. Over a mile of embank mentliag been erected along the river front, age, faced with galvanised iron. At Walgett, on April 10, the river was 25 miles wide, and the damage was enormous. The water was then sft deep all over the town.] THE SEAMEN’S UNION. At a special meeting of the Federated Seamen’s Union it was decided to withdraw from the Maritime Council. It is alleged that the latter body usurped executive functions in trying to form a Coasting t eamen’s Union against the expressed desire of the Seamen’s Union. Any seamen adhering to the Coastal Union after Mav 17sh will be debarred from ever joining the Federated Seamen’s Union, and any who have already joined must resign on pain of expulsion.
